RESPECT OUR STAFF, VOLUNTEERS, AND FELLOW VISITORS
Our staff and volunteers work hard to create a safe and enjoyable experience for every visitor. We ask all guests to treat Museum staff, volunteers, and fellow visitors with courtesy, patience, and respect.
 

Disrespectful, intimidating, threatening, aggressive, or abusive behavior toward staff, volunteers, or other visitors will not be tolerated. Museum staff are responsible for maintaining a safe environment and may provide direction regarding Museum policies, exhibit use, visitor conduct, and safety expectations. Guests are expected to follow reasonable instructions provided by Museum staff.

HARASSMENT AND DISCRIMINATION
The Maine Discovery Museum is dedicated to providing a welcoming, harassment-free experience for everyone.
 

The Museum does not tolerate discrimination, harassment, bullying, or inappropriate conduct of any kind. This includes behavior based on age, ability, disability, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, language, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, family or marital status, pregnancy, veteran status, socioeconomic status, health status, political affiliation, or any other protected characteristic.
 

Any behavior that creates an intimidating, hostile, unsafe, or unwelcoming environment may result in removal from the Museum.
 

CHILD SUPERVISION
The Maine Discovery Museum is not a childcare facility.

Children are encouraged to explore, create, and play throughout the Museum. Parents, guardians, teachers, chaperones, and caregivers remain responsible for supervising children in their care at all times and for helping them use exhibits safely and respectfully.

School groups, field trip leaders, and organized groups are responsible for maintaining appropriate supervision ratios and ensuring participants follow Museum expectations.

RESPECT OUR MUSEUM SPACES
Our exhibits, materials, collections, and facilities are shared resources. We ask all visitors to help care for the Museum so it can continue serving future generations of children and families.

The following behaviors are prohibited:

• Intentional damage to exhibits, materials, or Museum property

• Theft or attempted theft

• Vandalism or destruction of Museum resources

• Misuse of exhibits, tools, equipment, or materials

• Entering restricted or staff-only areas without permission

• Throwing objects or engaging in unsafe physical behavior

• Climbing on structures not intended for climbing

• Repeated unsafe or disruptive behavior after staff intervention

 

Visitors may be held financially responsible for damage resulting from intentional misconduct, negligence, or failure to appropriately supervise minors.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS
To help maintain a healthy environment for visitors, staff, and volunteers, guests who are actively ill should remain at home.

Visitors experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, fever, or symptoms of a potentially contagious illness may be asked to leave and return when symptoms have resolved.

The Museum may implement temporary health and safety requirements, including face coverings or other protective measures, when necessary to protect visitors, staff, and volunteers or in response to public health guidance.

Visitors are encouraged to practice good hygiene, including frequent handwashing and the use of hand sanitizer when appropriate.

UNACCOMPANIED ADULTS
For the safety and comfort of all visitors, adults age 16 and older entering the Museum without a child during public operating hours may be required to present a valid photo ID and leave identification information with Museum staff while visiting.

Museum management reserves the right to deny admission to any individual whose presence is inconsistent with the Museum's family-focused mission or visitor safety practices.
